Eligibility

Previous experience with ceramics is not necessary, but applicants must have completed a BA or above in an arts related subject or be able to demonstrate relevant experience. The resident must be largely self-sufficient, though will be supported by some technical assistance and tutorials throughout the six month period. We particularly welcome applications from practitioners who have an interest or experience in socially engaged practice. Current students are not eligible. International applicants are welcome to apply but we regret that we cannot provide travel or accommodation costs at this time.

Program Description

Dates and Duration: May - October 2020, 24hr access to studio Cost to artist: One-time cost of studio rental: £1320 (payable in 6 monthly installments) Kiln firings: £10 - £25 per firing Facilities and Resources: Private studio space 4m x 2m, Free access to a ceramics studio including: Throwing Wheel, 2 kilns (largest 50x50x120cm), pug mill, plaster working area, Use of shared communal kitchen, WiFi, 2 hours a month technical assistance from our studio manager, 3 tutorials throughout the residency with Collective Matter, Induction into the studio and wider Sugarhouse studio, 1 day-a-week use of our communal workshop space to run not-for-profit workshops/seminars/critiques etc, Potential to use the communal workshop space to run income-generating workshops at a small additional fee, A final showcase at the end of the residency within the Collective Matter studio, with install support, a drinks reception and promotion.
