Juror: David Potthast is an artist, designer, and educator; he observes & documents such things. He is a sculptor studied in design & computer science. He received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute, and an MA and MFA from Fontbonne University. He has shown locally the past few years, but has works in private collections both nationally and internationally. His approach to art and design is aligned with the tenets of the Bauhaus. Mainly that work can be both intellectually controlled and emotionally expressive. His works turn the digital languages and logic in visual pattern, often reacting to materials, but always steeped in concept. Whether entertaining chaos theory, game theory, time, or even ideas from his own or other’s fictional worlds, he seeks to find meaning in the existence and persistence of objects and experiences. His works even go so far as to inhabit far ancient worlds, yet appear as functional or ritualistic devices.
