Habitable Spaces Fall Residency Program

Habitable Spaces

No Funding
Free / No Costs
Kingsbury, United States

Eligibility

Our residency program invites artists of all backgrounds to create a large-scale work that will have a lasting presence on the Habitable Spaces campus. Over time this contribution will become part of a larger diverse collaboration with our local community and the campus itself. While there are no limits on the scope or format of the work created, your project proposal should engage with the broader objectives of Habitable Spaces. We are looking for artists whose project proposals understand and engage with these ideals. We welcome applicants to ask any questions they may have before applying. There are also a wide variety of photographs available on Flickr and Instagram that will help paint a picture of the spaces, landscape, people and events that have all contributed to Habitable Spaces. These include our Harvest and Film festivals, as well as other art projects that have taken place at the farm or in nearby towns.

Number of Participants

We accept three to five residents every season.

Program Description

Artists, architects, builders and makers are encouraged to submit your project proposal for a 3-month stay at Habitable Spaces this Fall (October-December). The successful applicant will be able to pursue a project of their own design, which contributes to our community farm of artists, WWOOFers, other volunteers, and the wider local area of Kingsbury, Texas. If you, a group, or collective wish to pursue this opportunity then please read the information below and submit an application using our online form. Applications are due on June 15th, with notification by July 15. During their stay, artists will be provided with a guest cabin amongst our community buildings, as well as all meals cooked in communal kitchen pavilion. We also have a wide variety of reclaimed and donated building materials as well as those gleaned from our natural forested environment. Please state in your proposal specific materials you are interested in and we can try to get them for you.
