Eligibility

Visual artists working in all forms of media are eligible. Artists must demonstrate strong international cultural ties through non-US citizenship or long-term residency and have a working command of the English language. The program is designed for artists with a developed studio practice and career. Applicants cannot be enrolled in a college or university degree-granting program at the time of participation. Certain types of work cannot be accommodated for practical reasons, including large or heavy sculptures, some types of metalwork, and work involving high noise levels or fire risk. EFA does not discriminate against anyone on the basis of race, creed, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation or marital status.

Number of Participants

EFA is a full-time community of 90 studios, print shop and galleries serving hundreds of artists. The International Partnership program sets aside up to 15 studios for short term international residencies.

Program Description

EFA Studio Program: International Partnerships offers studio space and career development opportunities to sponsored artists from around the world. Nonprofit organizations, governments, and individuals may support artists for residencies from three months up to a year. International artists may apply directly to the International Partnership program. If accepted, artists have one year to secure the necessary funding and visas to join the EFA community as a short term resident. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis through a free online submission form. Accepted artists are offered a private studio with 24-hour access in midtown Manhattan for a period of 3 months to a year. Artists are offered private studio visits with selected curators, critics, and gallerists. Artists may participate in Open Studios, social and professional events and cultural tours organized by EFA.
