Eligibility

Eligible applicants are young cultural practitioners and scholars with a pertinent experience in curating exhibitions and/or related projects. The application should document the interest in current debates and specific interest in the Frankfurt art scene and first ideas for the basis group show in 2019. The applicants should have a good level of spoken and written English (or German). Applications will be reviewed by a jury according to the quality of the proposal and the suitability of candidates. The AIR_Frankfurt curatorial residency is linked to the curation of the 2019 edition of the basis studio show. The selected curator will be in charge of the concept and selection of basis artists to be presented in a group show at the main exhibition spaces at basis in Summer 2019. The curatorial resident will be fully funded by the city of Frankfurt, covering travel expenses and a per diem of 1000€/month.

Program Description

Basis e.V. Frankfurt in collaboration with the AIR_Frankfurt program and the city of Frankfurt are pleased to announce the first residency open call for curators. The open call addresses young international curators (not older than 40 years) predominantly living and working outside Germany who are interested to get deeper insight into the local art context of the city of Frankfurt am Main. The aim of this curatorial residency program is to enhance international curatorial research and discourse in Frankfurt. Reflecting the local art context’s multifaceted landscape, basis welcomes applications based on a wide spectrum of curatorial practices, research interests and professional experiences. Resident curators are provided time and space to develop independent projects. Networking opportunities, including studio visits and meetings with professionals, will be offered. A public lecture or workshop can be held while the residency.
