Program Description
Can Serrat is a classic old Catalan farmhouse. The residency originally was started in 1989, by eleven Norwegian artists. Can Serrat is situated in the beautiful surroundings of El Bruc, a small town that borders the mountain of Montserrat, and is only 45 kilometers from Barcelona. The residency functions as a live-work community where people from different cultures, and fields of research meet under the same roof. The house hosts several projects throughout the year in which everyone is welcome to participate during their stay. These include a residency program, short-term co-working opportunities, a non-profit association called Els Amics de Can Serrat that organizes activities in relation to the local context, and Roca Verda, a co-op for local produce and products. Can Serrat is a space of process. As such, the activities we organize are oriented around this notion and include presentations, community dinners, dialogs, readings, critiques and visits to cultural spaces.
