Program Description

Pietraroia lies in the Matese mountains. It is a small village with lots of interest. Home to a small paleontology museum, the result of an important find, the only intact baby dinosaur fossil found in Europe, it is situated in a stunning mountainous setting. The locals have a strong local food tradition, plus the wine of Campania is consistently prize-winning. Archaeological sites are also nearby, as are many other villages, each with their own character. Pietraroia is situated about two hours north of Naples, making it possible to do daytrips or overnight trips to Naples, Caserta (home of the Caserta Palace), Pompeii, the Amalfi coast, and Benevento. Summertime is the season for festivals where each village celebrates their local food traditions such as cheese or olive oil. The residency program is open but as it is located in the heart of the village in a schoolhouse provided by the municipality, artists working with community-engaged projects are encouraged to apply.
