Applicants do not have to be American citizens. Though camping experience is not a prerequisite, the practicalities of life in the van encourage applicants to apply who have an enthusiasm for roughing it.

Program Description
1) Potential Map Makers apply to be Resident Artist in the location closest to where you are based. 1) Northern Midwest (August 22-25, 2018), 2) Rocky Mountains (August 28-August 31, 2018), 3) Pacific Northwest (September 3-6, 2018). 2) Selected resident Map Makers are picked up at a location in their region. The MAP van undertakes a four day looped journey (beginning and ending at the same location) as a local geographic tour. Artistic work will be conducted inside the MAP van during the day. MAP will set up camp at a National Park/ public location every night. All Living expenses are covered by MAP. A project does not need to be “completed,” but all artists must feel comfortable displaying their art in progress through the culmination of the MAP journey. 3) Following completion of each residency, the projects will continue with MAP to be displayed as part of a public exhibition a minimum of 2 times. All 3 projects will be returned to the artist following the end of MAP 2018.
