Program Description

Signal Fire’s arts and ecology field institute, Wide Open Studios, returns with two, month-long immersion courses. Our seventh annual Summer Immersion follows the upstream route of spawning salmon along wild mountain rivers through the greater homeland of the Nez Perce; residents will experience the impact of climate change on the first foods habitats of the inland Northwest. This autumn, Wide Open Studios traces the route of possibility: the Paseo del Lobo, a path of natural dispersal for the Mexican Grey Wolf from its current diminished range in the headwaters of the Gila River, toward the Grand Canyon. In summer, we also premier a one-week writing intensive in the shadow of Mount Adams, a land where butterfly and Bigfoot enthusiasts both follow the movement of elusive creatures. Wide Open Studios applications remain open through April 15.
