Dry Tortugas National Park at Loggerhead Key Artist in Residence SEPTEMBER 2019

National Parks Arts Foundation

With Funding
Dry Tortugas National Park, United States

Eligibility

This is an all-media residency. Are you able to be alone with your artist partner, on a beautiful island, in seclusion for a month, having "packed-in" all the food and supplies you will need? Of course you will be living in a well equipped on rare occasion shared house, with plenty of living space. Most modern amenities exist but this island paradise is "off the grid" for internet, phone, TV and the like. There are limited visitors to the island as well as the occasional visiting naturalists (who you may be able to accompany) observing such things as the rare Tortuga or other fauna and flora. You must be totally self sufficient, have insurance, be self realized and prepared to be art focused in this natural paradise. A satellite phone is recommended. For ease of coordination and communication with the Park Service, Artists or Artist couples must schedule their arrival between 10-3 on federal work days, and must have their own transportation to Fort Jefferson.

Number of Participants

DUE TO THE INTENSE, ISOLATED NATURE OF THIS RESIDENCY WE ARE ACCEPTING ONLY JOINT APPLICATIONS; EITHER ARTIST COUPLES OR TWO ARTISTS WHO ARE WILLING TO TOLERATE EACH OTHER FOR THE DURATION.

Program Description

One month, in a lighthouse in a small key (island) in the florida keys. Artists (2) are required to bring everything (food, equipment, art supply) they will require for their stay. Once at the location, there will be no non-emergency access or travel. This is what makes it a unique, exotic, and desirable residency.
