About

Alchemy is an international artist-led residency devoted to exploring the synergy between artistic practice and the cooking and sharing of locally cultivated food in a community setting. Founded in 2015, Alchemy is a community setting for inquiry and discovery: www.makealchemy.com Selected artists call upon a variety of mediums ranging from visual arts, sculpture, photography, craft, cooking, performance art, writing or video. Artists create and share their work and practice during Ontario's lush summer season, while also contributing culinary creativity to lively salon style communal dinners. Readings and discussions probe the creative intersection of food and art. Guest talks from local artists, chefs, and winemakers help us better understand the magic and inspiration created by making and sharing art, food, and ideas.

Local Information

Our location is the magical Prince Edward County, Ontario for our 12 day August session, beginning on August 9th. "The County" is home to more than 40 vineyards and known for its local food growing and sharing, farmers markets, lakefront beaches and 18th Century loyalist architecture. Our artists are housed in local farmhouses on a quiet rural road. Studio space is provided in a historic community hall within a five-minute walk of each of the farmhouses. Prince Edward's coastline on Lake Ontario’s northeastern shore is stunning - rolling farmland, sandy beaches, and towering limestone cliffs. The Region is dotted with artists studios and galleries, many of which can be visited from the self-guided Arts Trail (https://www.artstastetrail.com/artstrail).
