About
The production and exhibition platform basis was founded in 2006 in Frankfurt, Germany. This non-profit association promotes the production and reception of young contemporary art on different levels. Offering studios at four different sites to more than 130 artists and creative workers, basis improves the conditions of production of creative work in Frankfurt. Furthermore basis shows up to five international solo or group exhibitions of outstanding positions of contemporary art per year in their main exhibition rooms. Since 2016 basis conducts the artist in residence programs ‘AIR_Frankfurt’ and the ‘IEPA International Exchange Program for visual Artists’ that are open to artists from Frankfurt and artists from the Partner organisations as AIR Antwerpen (Belgium), MMCA Residency Goyang (Korea), lostgens' (Malaysia), the CEAAC Centre Européen d'Actions Artistiques et Contemporaines (France), NEKaTOENEa Hendaye (France) and HIAP Helsinki International Artist Programme (Finland).
Local Information
basis is integrated in and contributes to the lively and diverse art scene of Frankfurt, shaped by a high density of museums such as the Städel Museum and the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt am Main, cultural institutions and associations as well as the art schools Städelschule and the University of Art and Design HFG in Offenbach. The two main basis buildings and the AIR_Frankfurt apartment and studio are located in Frankfurt’s central “Bahnhofsviertel” area, in close walking distance to the municipal theatre Schauspiel Frankfurt, the famous art university Städelschule, numerous museums, cafés and restaurants.
