About

Bronx River Art Center (BRAC) is a culturally diverse, multi-arts, non-profit organization that provides a forum for community, artists, and youth to transform creativity into vision. Our Education, Exhibitions, Artist Studios, and Presenting Programs cultivate leadership in an urban environment and stewardship of our natural resource — the Bronx River. BRAC was founded in 1987 to bring professional arts programming to a culturally underserved population. For more than 40 years (including several years of arts programming under the umbrella of the first Bronx River Restoration project), this multi-arts center has filled the West Farms community of the Bronx with art and environmental experiences. Our programs are designed to encourage our residents to engage in creative activism towards the revitalization and future of their neighborhood.

Local Information

Located at 1087 East Tremont Ave, Bronx River Art Center (BRAC) was founded to bring professional arts programming to a culturally underserved population. For more than 40 years this multi-arts center has filled the West Farms community of the Bronx with art and environmental experiences. Our recently completed $13,000,000 renovation of our 18,000 sq. ft. building includes a fully equipped Mac computer lab, an environmentally concerned greenroof, a backyard native garden, and an established a gallery to present contemporary artists of diverse backgrounds and studios for emerging and mid-career artists to create and share their art with community. We also produce an arts education program which offers year-round after-school visual art classes for youth ages 5-19, young adults up to age 26, and adults and seniors. To coordinate our education and presenting programs we offer lecturers, workshops, film screenings, and an expanding performances program in our new event space.
