About

Byrdcliffe offers fully and partially funded residencies to creatives in all disciplines for monthly, seasonal, and year round duration in a serene mountain community 2.5 hours north of NYC in the mountains of Woodstock NY. Iterations open to individuals, teams, and couples at all levels in all disciplines. Byrdcliffe’s AiR program is particularly beneficial to those who find it restorative to live in a simple, communal environment in close proximity to natural beauty. More information can be found at: http://www.woodstockguild.org/artist-residencies/ Byrdcliffe annually welcomes over 80 visual artists, writers, weavers, composers, and creators of exceptional talent in groups of about 20 per month. The main criterion for acceptance to Byrdcliffe’s AiR program is artistic excellence and a demonstrated commitment to one’s field of endeavor. Emerging as well as established artists, writers, musicians, and craftspeople in nearly all media are invited to apply.

Local Information

Byrdcliffe's Artist Residency is located in the Catskill Mountains on a beautiful 250-acre historic campus in the town of Woodstock, NY. Since its founding in 1902, Byrdcliffe has welcomed artists, creatives, and craftspeople to live and work in over 30 turn-of-the-century private and communal buildings sprinkled amongst the Catskill forests outside the vibrant creative center of Woodstock. Just 2.5 hours north of NYC, the surroundings offer the tranquility of a remote forest while in walking distance of the bustling artistic center of Woodstock. Accommodations consist of simple historic arts & crafts style cottages clustered together in a close to nature forest setting. Byrdcliffe is one of the oldest creative communities in the nation offering time and space to artists such as Bob Dylan, Philip Guston, Eva Hesse, and hundreds more.
