About

The Faculty of Intermedia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków was founded in 2012. In the first decade of the 21st century, nearly all Polish art schools opened new courses of study to reflect an important change in the prevalent artistic paradigm that began in the 1960s and continues to evolve to this day. Some of the new curricula emphasize the technological, communicative, and systemic aspects of the transformation, invoking the concept of the "medium" as an alternative to traditional tools, i.e. one that connects "techne" and "logos", allowing technology to combine with the content level. These courses typically take their name from the word "medium", e.g. multimedia, communication media, new media, intermedia, etc.

Local Information

The faculty of Intermedia and its curriculum span the categories of “new media” and “audiovisual production”, but this designation does not adequately express what we have experienced and intended as the most constructive element that makes our project able to promote growth and stimulate civilizational progress. A great majority of these new courses aim to educate and inspire students to combine traditional artistic aspirations with a new technological and semantic toolbox, and to expand on the traditional conception and function of art. Graduates are equally well equipped to work as freelancers and join project and production teams using state-of-the-art technologies.
