KaninchenHaus - ViadellaFucina16
About
kaninchenhaus is a non-profit organization established in October 2009 in Turin, within the area of Porta Palazzo. It is active in the field of contemporary art and culture both at a local and international level. kaninchenhaus produces and organizes art exhibitions, theater shows, publications, audio-visual works, training and residency programs with the aim to encourage artistic mobility and the promotion of artists on an international scale. kaninchenhaus intends to invent original devices in order to promote projects and enable processes that mobilize unconventional strategies and plans of intervention in the artistic and cultural system. kaninchenhaus is an artist-run organization. The members of the core working group are artists who chose not to limit their activities and their identities to “the creation of artworks”, but to work actively – and independently – for the activation of shared processes and the redefinition of the role of the artist in society.
Local Information
In 2017 KaninchenHaus launched the 1st edition of VIADELLAFUCINA16: the world’s first experiment of a condominium-museum. At the heart of the project is an artist-in-residence programme inside the condominium of via La Salle 16 (formerly via della Fucina), in the Porta Palazzo district of Turin, home of the biggest open air market in Europe. Through an international open call, artists have been invited to spend a residency period in the condominium and create their artwork and interventions in the common spaces. The aim is to activate a dialogue among the different communities of tenants and promote the regeneration of the 19th-century building, which today is in a state of decline and neglect. The winning projects are selected by the inhabitants themselves (about 200 of various nationalities, living in 53 apartments) together with a committee of curators and insiders.
