About
La MaMa Umbria International is an independent non profit Cultural Association, based in Spoleto Italy, funded in 1990 by avant-garde theatre pioneer Ellen Stewart, also funder and Artistic Director of the world renowned La MaMa Theatre in New York. La MaMa Umbria International is part of a wide international network of similar organizations, Festivals and venues in Europe, in the United States, in Asia and in other parts of the world. It functions as an International Artist Residency, a center for the advance study, research and production of innovative and emerging Performing Arts. La MaMa Umbria provides the opportunity for culturally diverse artists to live together while working on productions, studying, participating in workshops, or developing their artistic researches. In twenty-five years of activity it has produced a great variety dance, theatre and multimedia productions, as well as workshops, art exhibitions and conferences, involving artists from Europe and abroad.
