About

RADAR Radar Sofia is an art hub of resistance against the mainstream, a residency place for trouble and dramaturgy makers, safe haven for those who are unsafe, a collective of artists with the finest sense of theatre in a strange country and in weird times. Our residents are a strong mix of international dissident creators and highly respected established names, but we are always in search of new and up-and-coming artists and approaches. Radar has recently become a branch of the Artist at Risk network. We want to lend a helping hand to creators who walk an artistic path off the beaten track. New methods and forms that make the audience truly engage in an important contemporary topic are what we seek to promote. We tend to prefer artists who take note of the world around them, see what is going on, and are able to artistically relate to the troubles and dangers for our societies and for our planet.

Local Information

What we offer at the moment is a free space to live and create. In limited cases we can offer a small stipend to our residents. Orientation tour within the city and networking with artists from the local scene is for those who will be willing to get this help, otherwise you will be the one in charge of how you spend your time. We would like to organise for you a public lecture, a screening, presentation or reading and this will be arranged on individual basis. We have secured the commitment of the British Council in Bulgaria to offer their support in presenting or promoting your work whenever that would be possible. The same is done by our partners from Goethe-Institut Bulgarien. Goethe-Institut Bulgarien were as kind as to offer their Luft Studio for our guests coming from all fields of artistic practice if they want to lead a workshop. For the visual artists (under the Artist at Risk umbrella) we have a network of contacts with galleries, curators and festivals.
