To provide a supportive, inclusive community-based environment where artists, writers, and creatives have to opportunity to further investigate and develop their practice. Sumac Project offers a space for artists to focus and expand their practice in a supportive, community-based environment. Participants have the freedom to experiment, are encouraged to explore new ideas, contemplate, and conduct research during their self-directed residency. We are open to and encourage community initiatives from intimate workshops to large-scale performances. Sumac Project is tucked among the quiet fields of a small rural community, conveniently located just east of Toronto, Ontario. Support your practice while exploring the many trails nearby, diving into the refreshing lakes, or enjoy a campfire under the stars. Artists in residence can investigate and explore our thirty acres or go further afield to the many trails and open spaces nearby.
We are a remote, rural self-directed residency in Kawartha Lake's the traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabe. A short 20-minute drive to Peterborough, Ontario will reconnect artists with all urban amenities. A five-minute stroll to the hamlet of Ennismore, rich in Irish history and pride and the historical general store.
