Mission: Founded in 2002 in Eastport Maine, the Tides Institute & Museum of Art is located on the Atlantic coast at the US/Canada border. This boundary location shapes its perspective on the region and the broader world through its initiatives and programs to foster new innovative and cross-sector works; through its wide ranging collections, education and preservation effarts; and through its partnerships and endeavors to strengthen the region’s economic prosperity, vitality and wider connections. The Tides Institute & Museum of Art offers residency opportunities for visual artists at StudioWorks, a studio building located in the historic downtown of Eastport, Maine.  Artists come to StudioWorks to deepen and develop their practice within this unique community setting.  The facilities at StudioWorks face the waterfront and include an accessible ground floor printmaking and letterpress studio and separate private studio spaces.

Local Information

A StudioWorks residency provides a unique experience for an artist to create work within a public context and play an active role in a creative community. Eastport, Maine is located within an ‘artsipelago’ of communities along the international border between the province of New Brunswick, Canada and the state of Maine, USA. The StudioWorks program mission, supported by national awards from ARTPLACE, is to place the arts in the center of the community, utilizing the arts and artists to foster, engage, and create a vital and vibrant downtown.
