Córtex Frontal is a multidisciplinar cultural project created in 2016 by the Cultural Association Cortexcult, in Arraiolos, Évora, Alentejo. We welcome professional artists, writers, researchers and workgroups in search of time and space to reflect, discuss and create. Our goal is to promote and develop cultural projects, establishing a lively dialogue between artists from various disciplines and the local community. Call for applications is open year round for residency proposals from March to December, for a minimum period of 3 weeks. Projects with relevance to the Portuguese context and the local community will be specially appreciated, in Visual Arts, Performative Arts, Literature and Music.

Local Information

Arraiolos is a small, white and blue Alentejan town. It is situated 120 km far from Lisbon, surrounded by plains, oak and olive tree forest. It´s famous for its circular castle, embroidered wool rugs and carpets. Arraiolos rugs have been made since the Middle Ages. As Arraiolos is the capital of a larger 7.800 inhabitants region, it concentrates many institutions and civil/social services:
