MERZ was established by TV producer and artist David Rushton on extending the legacies of Kurt Schwitters and more recently Hannah Hoch, developing ideas of ‘collage’ as a theme for reconstruction and fabrication in a post-industrial and rural setting. MERZ is sited at Sanquhar’s former lemonade factory, it offers a rural base in a wonderful walking country, with four self-contained residencies, a gallery, a museum and studios. Month-long residencies can conclude with an exhibition/performance as appropriate Summerhall TV provides filmed documentation or can assist with video diaries. Living Accommodation includes The Bothy, The Snug, The Tadpole and No.5; exhibition/Display area including MERZ Workshop Museum of Model Art, No.5 and Sculpture Green (large outdoor work). Local Information

Sanquhar is a small quiet Scottish town in the beautiful Nith valley, it has become a centre for walking, cycling and storytelling. Additionally, Sanquhar plays host to three annual arts festivals.
