About

An abandoned village in the Ribeira Sacra; one of the most biologically and culturally dense landscapes in northwestern Spain. Two hectares of forest. A stone barn studio nominated for the Premio Nacional de Arquitectura 2024. A few Geodesic domes. And a community of artists, filmmakers, creatives and makers who live and work with. This is O Castro Art Village. And it is open to you. O Castro welcomes artists, writers, researchers, and creative practitioners of all disciplines for stays of flexible duration, from two weeks to two months. In addition to Residencies we offer a carefully selected variety of events and workshops. From filmmaking courses, to maker's labs, from film festivals, to music performances, from herbal medicine workshops, to critical thinking and poetry reading nights.

Local Information

We are located in O Castro de Mourelos, O Saviñao, Lugo. Our region named Ribeira Sacra do Miño is famous for its wine, terraced vineyards and a particular cultivation method known as Heroic Viticulture. The closest inhabited village (Mourelos) is two kilometres away. This is where most of our neighbours reside. They are like a family to us. When not working on art projects, we offer them a helping hand with grape harvest, or any other communal task that they need the help with.
