Phoenix Athens is a non-profit gallery & art residency that gives focus on multiculturalism & community within an educational character. Phoenix Athens welcomes upcoming local and international artists and art students with less experience in order to provide them with the chance to develop their artistic practice to the fullest. We encourage collaboration and exchange between international artists and community members through our residency program, Villa Exarcheia. The exchange between the local community and international creatives is designed to foster creative growth and progress both within and outside of Greece. By providing cultural and educational resources to locally, it is believe that greater social awareness can be achieved globally.
Phoenix Athens is located in the centre of Athens. Museums such as the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of The Acropolis are located within walking distance of the gallery and residency space. Most of the cultural events happen in the centre of Athens which creates a wonderful creative community. It is well worth mentioning that the neighbourhood of Exarcheia itself is unlike anything else in Europe. This neighbourhoods stands as an emblematic “site de resistance” against hegemonic economies and also serves as a living gallery with its plethora of street art, boutiques, market and revolutionary character. A walking tour of this neighbourhood, Srefi and Lycabettus Hill are also available to the residency artists wishing to participate in this program.
