About

The Ou is a personable and process based experience; a place to decompress, experiment, research and play. Adjust to Island time and make space to slow down. We live in a small town with immediate access to nature including creeks, rivers, lakes, the ocean and gorgeous forest trails! We accept applications from emerging and established artists of all mediums and practice, and are committed to celebrating diversity by welcoming artists of all genders, identities and ethnicities for 2 week and 1 month stays. Local Information

We are deeply grateful to call the Cowichan Valley home, and respectfully acknowledge that these lands are part of the traditional Coast Salish territory of the Quw’utsun and the Hul’qumin’num Treaty Group including T'Sou-Ke, Malahat, Halalt, S'tzuminus, Penelakut, Lyackson, Cowichan Lake and Snuneymuxw nations. ACCOMMODATION Each artist has a private bedroom with a desk, linens for bed and bath, heat and hot water and Wi-Fi in a suite shared with the one other artist in residence. The suite has a large living room, kitchen, gas stove and garden patio. Artists are responsible for cleaning their room, preparing their own meals and keeping common areas tidy. STUDIO + SUPPLIES Artists have 24/hr access to their dedicated studios space. Each space is approx. 200 square feet in a historic boatbuilding workshop with open rafters and original fir floors. The studios include tables, easels, a window and plenty of wall space. We have hand tools, and a small photography darkroom.
