About

The Sable Project is an artist residency like no other. Seeking artists of all disciplines, it is off-grid, environmentally engaged, grounded by physical work, and collaborative by nature. Designed to provide a platform for our artists to have space and time to work on their art and form a strong community with their peers that lasts far beyond their time at Sable. The project is meant to be organic, and each summer unique, as the residency evolves through the input of everyone involved. We offer various residency options: Summer: For artists of all disciplines. Residencies are 10 days June- September Guest: For professional artists or groups of artists. 2- 5 days June & July Fall: For artists of all disciplines. 10 days in September.

Local Information

Our program is located in Stockbridge, VT, on a beautiful 15 acres we have come to call The Sable Land. We are totally off-grid (no electricity, cell coverage, or internet), and artists are offered a tent platform to camp on for their stay. We have a few mini-studios, a beautiful stage/performance space, a bathhouse (with running water), and a beautiful communal kitchen open for use by the residents. On the land are extensive gardens run by Fat Dragon Farm, which collaborates closely with the residency program and offers work trade to the artists in exchange for delicious veggies, herbs, and fruit. And the rest is covered by beautiful, young forest. There are walking paths, and the entirety of the land is open to investigation, experimentation, and creative impulses. The closest town is about 15 minutes away by car. Public transportation is extremely limited, so we often coordinate with residents to pick them up from nearby bus and train stations.
