Eligibility

ChaNorth (Chashama North) accepts applications in all creative fields, including but not limited to visual arts, choreography, writing, music composition, and performance. National and international artists, emerging and mid-career artists are welcome to apply. For international artists, we can provide letters of support, but each artist is responsible for arranging their own visa. Artists enrolled in graduate and undergraduate programs at the time of application are not eligible to apply to ChaNorth.

Number of Participants

Each month-long session has 5 to 8 artists, creating small, dynamic, interactive groups. ChaNorth accepts a total of 42 + if including collaborative artists for the summer season. Collaborative applications are welcome, please note currently we can only provide collaborative projects for artists sharing accommodation​ and studio space.

Program Description

ChaNorth is a Self-Directed Residency. The residency program offers space, time, and inspiration to make new work. Residency fee includes a private room, private studio, fully stocked kitchen. 2019 Summer Residency Seas includes 6 sessions from May to October. Fostering community engagement, ChaNorth collaborates with McEnroe Organic Farm’s Education Garden where resident artists are asked to participate in 3 hours of work exchange each week. In return, our shared kitchen is stocked with fresh, seasonal produce and whole grains. Shared meals act as the anchor of the program. ChaNorth invites 2-3 studio visitors per session, organize an evening of artist’s talks and presentations and open studio events. ChaNorth offers one fellowship award, per season, for a young artist under 30; a solo show award; and annual curated alumni show, presented at Chashama exhibition spaces in New York City.
