Program Description
Maracuyá is an international artist residency in Tijuana, Mexico, founded by artist, educator, and Tijuana native Dmitri Zurita. Housed on a beachfront property two kilometers south of the US-Mexico border wall at the northwesternmost edge of Latin America, the program has convened an invited cohort of established international artists each summer since 2018. Residents arrive without production requirements, exhibition mandates, curatorial briefs, or cost of attendance; asked only to be present with the place, the city, and each other. Against the residency’s prevailing logic of output and exchange, Maracuyá holds open a different proposition: that place, proximity, and unstructured time constitute a serious form of practice. Curatorial support, professional development advice and other residency resources will be available as needed, as well as social networking and exhibition opportunities with local groups.
