Program Description

About the Program: In this one-week intensive, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Bill Morrison guides up to 10 students in creating 5–7 min personal films. Beginning with first-person smartphone footage documenting Craft 101, participants work closely with Morrison to edit their pieces, gaining hands-on experience with his unique storytelling and editing process. The workshop concludes with a public screening. Students must have laptops with editing software installed and be familiar with importing, cutting, and exporting footage. ALN provides review and screening spaces; no additional studio equipment is provided. About the Program Director: Bill Morrison is known for blending archival footage with contemporary music. His acclaimed film Decasia was added to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry. A Guggenheim fellow, he has worked with composers like Philip Glass and Laurie Anderson. In 2025, he earned an Oscar nomination for Incident (2024).
