Eligibility

This award is open to self-defined under-recognized visual artists. Must be over the age of 25. May not be enrolled in a degree program at the time of the application deadline, October 1, 2020. The application requires a project proposal, 10 work samples, artist biography, CV, and 2 recommendations from professional references. The only required outcome is for the HARPO Emerging Artist Fellow is to submit 5 images of work made during the residency and a statement of impact. The Artist Fellow is not required to engage in SFAI's 2020-2021 residency theme, "Labor," but may do so at their discretion. Number of Participants

1 artist will be selected for the 2021 HARPO Emerging Artist Fellowship. Duration of residency: 6 weeks at the Santa Fe Art Institute. Applicants can choose one of the following six-week periods for their residency in 2021: January 4 to February 10 February 15 to March 24 August 30 to October 6 October 11 to November 17

Program Description

The HARPO Foundation Emerging Artist Fellowship Residency at the Santa Fe Art Institute is a prestigious award established in 2013 to provide an emerging visual artist with strong artistic ability & an evolving practice, the space & time to explore ideas & start new projects in a residency context at a pivotal moment in their professional development. The annual Artist Fellow receives a one-month residency at SFAI, which includes a private room & bath, a semi-private studio space, access to common facilities & basic tools, & a $500 travel stipend. All other expenses, materials, & equipment are the responsibility of the fellow. In addition to the $10 application fee, SFAI requires a refundable $150 security deposit to be paid upon acceptance.
