About

Our residency program provides creative artists across disciplines, with both emerging and established careers, with the opportunity to create work in a new context, to establish professional contacts and standards and to engage with the community. Artists are hosted at “Palazzo del Gatto”, in the medieval village of Casaprota, (Sabine region, in the centre of Italy). They have access to studio and working spaces, located inside the Palazzo and in the large garden with a fantastic inspirational landscape. The nearby municipal theatre is available for performers, as well as the adjacent exhibition hall. During their residency, artists are asked to develop a project that establishes a relationship with the territory and/or its inhabitants. Artists have opportunities to interact with locals and to visit the surroundings. At the end of the residency works are exhibited to the community.

Local Information

The little medieval village of Casaprota (10th century) is a rural location with basic amenities (grocery shops, bars, pharmacy, post office, hair dresser, hardware, doctor office, summer swimming pool). The local area is littered with olive groves and medieval hill top villages. The protected area of the Farfa Gorge is a walk away, as well as the pretty stone villages of Montenero and Collelungo. Many scenic and historic sites are a short drive away. For instance, the Farfa Abbey, Mount Terminillo ( a ski resort), the Franciscan monasteries on The St. Francis Way, the ancient churches of Santa Vittoria and San Donato, Lake Turano and the Marmore Falls. There is little public transportation, but SabinARTi can organize excursions; also, a guided visit to the Montenero Castle will be offered exclusively at no cost to the residents. If needed, a taxi service can be hired.
