Program Description

Week long residency featuring twice daily fieldtrips, workshops nad lecture for artists to study Plants and Botany in natural habitats and laboratories enriched by biologists, naturalists and experts to learn and collect materials. Outline of activities: We invite you to give a private artist talk to share your work with the group. Guided tour of the Arboretum and experimental farm. Meet with the Ottawa Society of Botanical Illustration. Visit the National Herbarium archives. Hike the woods with an expert on invasive species. Visit the laboratory of a native Canadian ethnobotanist. Meet a kirilian photographer for an artist talk and plant EEG demonstration. Hike the Wild Garden to pick edible and medicinal plants. Visit the research green houses at Ottawa University. Learn about trees and climbing them with an arborist. Explore shore line plant life with a river keeper. Visit the Ottawa Seed Library to learn about seed saving and sustainable food.
