Eligibility

The residency programme is open to artists and collectives of artists, researchers, and curators of all nationalities, with no age limit, with at least five years of professional experience and who presented their work and research on an international scale. Candidates can apply to two types of residency programme: – SOLO programme: open to artists only, for a residency of 3 or 6 months, during 2 sessions: March-August 2024 / September 2024-February 2025 – COLLECTIVE programme: open to collectives or duos of artists, researchers, and curators, for a 3-month residency during 4 sessions: March-May 2024 / June-August 2024 / September-November 2024 / December 2024-February 2025 Eligible artistic disciplines are: visual arts, performing arts, digital art, art criticism, and exhibition curating. Eligible areas of research are: humanities, social sciences, sciences, scientific innovation, and ecology.

Number of Participants

Around 20 residents are selected each year. In addition to evaluating the candidate’s professional background, the members of the selection committee pay particular attention to the quality of the project, its link with the themes of the residency, and the importance of its location in France for the advancement of the research. The selection committee is made up of leading figures from the art world and research: – Magalí Arriola (Mexico): Art critic and Director of the Museo Tamayo of Contemporary Art – Diana Campbell Betancourt (USA/Bangladesh): Artistic Director of the Samdani Art Foundation and Chief Curator of the Dhaka Art Summit – Emanuele Coccia (France/Italy): Philosopher and Associate Professor at EHESS – Isabelle Gaudefroy (France): Deputy Artistic Director of the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain – Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikun (Cameroon): Director of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) – Hans Ulrich Obrist (UK/Switzerland): Artistic Director Serpentine Galleries

Program Description

Art Explora joined forces in 2021 with the Cité internationale des arts to create a biannual residency programme for artists and researchers from all over the world in the Cité internationale des arts in Montmartre. This programme gives them the opportunity to engage in research and creative work in the heart of Paris, in collaboration with French art professionals and scientists.
