Open Call: Wild Bits Residency 2026

Eligibility
Through this open call, Wild Bits is seeking proposals for installations, interventions, or processes to be placed in natural landscapes that explore the human condition in a contemporary technological society. The artworks should be able to withstand outdoor conditions. We encourage artists to consider energy-sustainable solutions, such as alternative sources (e.g., solar panels), and to be as economical as possible. Selection criteria: - suitability of the idea considering the assignment - feasibility of the production plan - environmental impact of the project - project’s ability to relate to the natural environment and outdoor conditions
Number of Participants
Maajaam can accommodate and cover the travel costs of up to 2 people. If there are additional people in the artist group who are crucial to the execution of the artwork, we will seek to negotiate an appropriate solution. The artists’ travel budget is limited to 350€ per person within Europe and up to 700€ for artists traveling outside the EU. Accommodation will be provided by the organiser.

Program Description
Residency duration: up to 3 weeks Residency dates: Jun 15 – Jul 5, 2026 or Aug 17 – Sep 9, 2026 Residency location: Estonia, Maajaam Application deadline: Jan 31, 2026 Results of the open call: end of February / early March After exhibiting a large-scale outdoor technological art exhibition over the summer of 2024, Wild Bits is transitioning into a triennial format, with the next edition planned for 2027. This ambitious project aims to establish a recurring platform for artists exploring the intersection of nature, technology, and human interaction within outdoor settings. The residency duration at Maajaam is approximately three weeks, depending on your production plan. During the residency, you will be expected to produce your artwork using the workspaces and available tools . You will be accommodated in the Maajaam residency house. Two meals per day will be provided and covered by the host during your residency. This Open Call is funded by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
