Eligibility

The program is open to artists and musicians from diverse backgrounds, including professionals, non-professionals, students, and self-taught practitioners. We welcome individuals working in music, visual arts, dance, theatre, performance, and live art who are eager to explore interdisciplinary collaboration. Participants should be open to experimentation, collective creation, and stepping outside their usual artistic practice. The program seeks curious, engaged individuals interested in working across disciplines and contributing to a shared creative process in an immersive residential setting.

Number of Participants

Our Call for Artists ​ We are looking to select 16 artists working in the fields of music, visual arts, dance, theatre, performance, and live art, to form a cross-disciplinary ensemble. ​ With appreciation of the arbitrary nature of categories, and the fact that many artists have multi-disciplinary practices, we will aim to shape the balance of the ensemble according to the following ratio: ​ 9 musicians, 5 visual artists, 1 movement artist, 1 performance maker

Program Description

Other Lands Other Sounds 2026 is a 12-day residential cross-arts program taking place from July 31 to August 11 in Northern Portugal, at the Court of Cavalum, an 18th-century mansion 30 minutes from Porto. The program includes movement sessions, ensemble workshops, skill shares, field trips, creative briefs, and mentoring. Participants collaborate across disciplines to create new works in performance, sound, installation, and movement, culminating in a promenade performance through the house. The program hosts approximately 9 musicians, 5 visual artists, 1 movement artist, and 1 performance maker. Curated by Filipe Sousa, Beatriz Martinez, and Kate Smith. Fee from €1210 (including accommodation, food, and tuition; travel not included). Includes 1 work exchange placement, 1 bursary for a local Portuguese artist, and support for Culture Moves Europe funding applicants. 4 deadlines available, with early bird discount before May 1.
