Program Description

This is the second winter for our Self-directed Residency Program. Photographers, artists, filmmakers or writers are invited to apply for 1-3 month residencies between January 1st and March 31st, 2020. Priority will be given to artists with a particular interest in photographic research and production. Ströndin Studio is an educational and experimental center for photography located in the former barracks of a fish factory in Seydisfjördur, Iceland. Ströndin is a place where artists can become familiar with Icelandic nature and culture, and find time to research, create, and produce works in an isolated and inspiring setting. Seyðisfjörður is a small town in the east fjords with a distinct personality. Home to Icelanders, artists, travellers, and adventure seekers, it maintains its pioneering and innovative soul. The community has a population of 650 people, two fish processing plants and four artist residencies.... and evolves with the times and with new waves of tourism and art.
