Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program
Eligibility
The program is open to professional visual artists, 21 years or older who are US citizens, Permanent Residents, or visa holders. We look forward to welcoming artists from across the United States to our studios this fall. Applicants may not be enrolled in any degree program, participate in any other residency program, or maintain a separate studio during their residency.
Number of Participants
Seventeen artists are selected annually based on merit from a competitive pool of applicants by a professional jury comprised of artists and members of the SWSP Artists Advisory Committee.

Program Description
The Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program awards rent-free studio space to 17 visual artists for year-long residencies. Artist studios are accessible 24/7 and include freight and passenger elevator access, high ceilings, and natural light. Communal spaces include a kitchen, slop sinks, restrooms, and a sitting area with Wi-Fi. Our studios are located in Brooklyn, NY amidst a thriving waterfront community full of art galleries, creative professionals, and independent retailers. The 2020–2021 Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program residency period will last from September 2020 through August 2021, with an open studios weekend held in the spring of 2021. The Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program has provided working studio space and community for artists since 1991. Since its founding, over 400 artists have participated in the program.
