2022 StudioWorks Residency Program

Eligibility
The StudioWorks artist-in-residence program is open to professionally established and/or emerging visual artists and craftspeople from anywhere in the world. Proposals will be considered from artists working in drawing, painting, digital/new media, photography, printmaking, installation, sculpture, textiles or a combination of these. In 2022, residencies will also be awarded to craftspeople working in wood, metal, fibers, ceramics or letterpress. StudioWorks Alumni will be contacted directly about future opportunities which have a separate application and review process. Alumni are not eligible to re-apply through this open call. Students who are enrolled in an undergraduate or masters-level degree program at the time of the application deadline are not eligible for a residency and should not apply. Artists should have a working fluency in English.
Number of Participants
Since its beginning in 2013, StudioWorks has supported 71 artists. Generally two or three artists are in residence at the same time. Since the pandemic, all housing has been single occupancy. Proposals from collaborative teams of two will be considered, but StudioWorks cannot consider proposals from larger groups/teams due to housing and studio limitations.

Program Description
StudioWorks is committed to the community and our central downtown location is key to making studios open for public engagement. Artists are expected to schedule regular open hours during their residency term or be accessible in other ways in the community. In addition, all StudioWorks artists participate in an online or in-person artist talk/ open studio during their last week in residence. StudioWorks artists-in-residence engage the community in some way during their stay. Successful proposals consider place, location or site-specific elements or studies. Application requirements include a 1-2 page written proposal; survey about availability; a current CV, resume or biographical statement; contact information for 3 references; up to 10 images of recent artwork with title, size, media information listed, or media uploads or links to film/video or audio.
