2023 Anderson Center at Tower View Artist Residency Program

Anderson Center

No Funding
Red Wing, United States

Eligibility

The Anderson Center's flagship Residency Program is open to emerging, mid-career, and established visual artists, writers, composers, choreographers, multidisciplinary artists, musicians, performance artists, scholars, and translators from across the globe. The program is interdisciplinary and the organization welcomes applications from a wide range of creative and intellectual genres, including those that don't fit neatly into the above list. The Artist Residency Program is an ideal fit for artists whose work reveals a significant potential for cultural and community impact, is technically accomplished, and engages diverse communities. The organization believes that the environment and resources of Tower View, along with an exchange of ideas between artists working across disciplines, can serve as a catalyst for new inspiration and innovative directions for the work artists create while in residence.

Number of Participants

5 artists participate in a residency at a time. Individual residencies are the custom -- a given artist selected to participate lives in community and fellowship in the residency house with 4 other artists. Collaborative applications are welcome, but collaborative residencies are also rare. The program is extremely competitive and space is simply limited.

Program Description

For the 2023 season, the Anderson Center is offering residencies of two to four weeks’ duration in July, September, October, and November to enable artists, writers, musicians, and performers of exceptional promise and demonstrated accomplishment to create, advance, or complete work. The Anderson Center Residency Program was established by a working poet to support other artists and continues to be led by administrative staff with hands-on experience in the creative process. The Anderson Center trusts artists to best use their time to benefit their own work and reach their own goals. The expectation is that the program's cohort model and distinctive setting, along with the gift of time and space, generates significant advancements in residents' work. The Anderson Center is an artist community founded in 1995 on the Tower View estate, a venerable research-and-development lab for the arts rooted in an expansive natural setting in rural Red Wing, MN.
