Program Description

Creating a fellowship, like any other act making and holding space for the arts, is an expression of what and who we value. It is an intentional, creative act, representing an interruption of the inertia of the status quo. For more than 10 years, resident artists at Gallery Aferro have had 24/7 access to large studios, ongoing first consideration for a range of on and off-site opportunities, access to our studio blog, and generous one-on-one career and technical support from staff. The growing network of residency alumni is an increasingly powerful, multigenerational group of contemporary artists working across media. Participation in the residency program includes a platform to share and participate in a community of artists and others through informal networking and participation in seasonal open studios and artist talks at the gallery. The work-only studios average more than 600 sq. ft. per studio, and have dedicated storage space and high ceilings.
