We are seeking California-based artists who are interested in or have experience with community engagement. Preference will be given to underrepresented and/or local artists. Projects are required to have an element that can be integrated into our free Saturday community workshops that engage with the creation or reflection of the art. We are particularly interested in projects that are developed in collaboration with our local community and are open to process-based work that may not have specific predetermined outcomes. Artists of all mediums are encouraged to apply. Full-time students are not eligible to apply.

Side Street Projects (SSP) is requesting proposals for our Spring 2020 Artist-in-Residence program titled Mobility Archived. Side Street Projects offers a one-month residency for two artists/collectives to host workshops and develop a site-specific, community-engaged art project around the theme of Mobility Archived. Mobility as diaspora. Mobility as immigration. Mobility as a source of regeneration and agency. Mobility as home. This residency requires selected artists to lead 4 workshops (on Saturdays) and 1 closing celebration/exhibition. The program is designed for artists developing socially-engaged projects and connecting them to the communities Side Street Projects serves. Our residency program honors process over product and makes space for regeneration, deep listening, and peer-to-peer mentorship. This project is funded through the generous support of the California Arts Council.
