Eligibility

The call is open but no limited to visual artists, writers, musicians, performers, architects and scenic artists interested in relating their work to the open call thematic and on first hand approach to the Mayan area of central Quintana Roo, México. The call is open to collaborations up to 2 persons to share living space. The dates for its realization is a 30 day period to choose between JUN 20 and AGO 20, 2020. This is a production oriented grant so do have preference for projects which can reach conclusion through the cycle and which may be performed within the limitations of this off the grid complex. Selection criteria based on content of proposal and quality of previous body of work.

Number of Participants

4 selected projects and creators will conform the group to be invited to live and work in Casa Xaán In Ná at Macario Gómez, Municipality of TULUM, MEXICO, each having access into private living/working quarters for the period length. We expect to create a small inter-discipline group of artists from different backgrounds and levels of evolution so we may benefit in learning from each other practice, experience and learn about Mexican culture, low impact living and maybe network in future collaborations. The program includes participation from the house hosts who share a weekly dinner event with the residents, contemplate a guided visit to Mayan civilization ruins and other point of interest related to the program thematic to be discussed among the attending group.

Program Description

CASA XAANINNA off the grid art retreat in south east Mexico is looking forward to allocate 4 half sponsored residency programs on this 2020 summer by this international open call to selection of projects, granting 50% financial support on accommodation and program expenses. The program is oriented towards the production of art around the theme: MODERN RUINS. The resident will be asked to observe our present civilization from the point of view of its possible remains looking from a distant future; into create art as in finished objects or manifestations out from drawn visions and conclusions. The outcome of this experiment will conform a collection of artworks under this residency theme. The program include access to general facilities of the house complex as into shared workshop (28m2), small library, guest kitchen, exterior lounge areas and a pond. Shared bathroom facilities outside room.Guest artists are expected to supply and organize for their own cooking.
