Mudhouse Residency in Crete is Accepting Applications for Summer Residency Session July 25 - August 8, 2020

Mudhouse Residency

No Funding
Lasithi, Greece

Eligibility

The residency program is ideal for professional artists with an established practice seeking the time and space to realize an individual project. The residency includes 24 hr access to a spacious studio facility, practice space with athletic flooring, or access to the Music house grand piano, depending on the artist's discipline. We welcome non-studio artists as well, as our residency provides the time and structure to focus on a non-studio based project, be it a novel, screenplay, video, or photographic series. The application process is free and open to all. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Artists must apply through our website: http://www.mudhouseresidency.com/apply. The application asks the artist to attach 10-12 examples of their work (for visual artists) or an excerpt of their writing.

Number of Participants

We are accepting up to ten artists per residency session. We will be holding two late summer residency sessions in 2020; the first session will be July 25 - August 8, the second session will be August 24 - September 7. The cost of the residency program is €2100 for the two week duration. We have extended the final deadline to apply for the first session to July 1, and the deadline to apply for the second session to August 1, 2020. We understand you may have concerns about the coronavirus and how that may affect your travel plans. We want you to feel comfortable making plans to travel this summer, therefore we have moved the residency dates to as late in the season as possible, and we have issued a 100% refund policy as well as a list of actionable items to safeguard our artists’ health.

Program Description

The Mudhouse Residency is designed to provide a cultural immersion: living, working and dining in the mountain village of Agios Ioannis, on the Greek island of Crete. The residency is inclusive to a number of artistic disciplines, with the facilities to accommodate studio artists, painters, printmakers, photographers, writers, poets, dancers, musicians, choreographers and composers. The program is structured for maximum time in the village, utilizing the ruins as classroom and work space. Meals are served at the village taverna and following dinner, artists are invited to present a slideshow lecture or reading on their work for fellow residents. At the end of each session an exhibition is mounted at the Agios Ioannis Cultural Center, with a corresponding reception in which the residents of the village and surrounding villages are invited to celebrate with the artists.
