Eligibility

We encourage innovative and varying interests, projects and research topics.   Our residents have included writers & journalists, musicians & fine artists, arts administrators & social workers, architects & designers, researchers & Ph.D candidates, chefs & botanists, as well as lawyers, educators, performers and others. We are less focused on residents’ capability to learn / produce / execute, and more so on the thoughtful process and purpose from which they are doing so. Applicants are encouraged to consider (both on application and during their stay) how their work interacts with Oaxaca as a place, community and culture, and to reflect on their role and responsibility as an artist or researcher learning and creating in a new location.

We host 4 international residents and 4 local residents per five week residency session.

Program Description

Open call for Winter -Spring 2023 residencies! Pocoapoco hosts five-week residencies made up of both international and local residents who come together to think, work, discuss and collaborate in our centrally located home in Oaxaca City.  We welcome artists and non-artists across all fields to cultivate their personal creative work through dedicated time & space along with interdisciplinary and cross-cultural connections, conversation and collaboration.   Residents and staff (as well as local partners, artist and friends) come together for meals, drinks, conversations and practices. Residents share previous or current work and research during their stay through a first-week resident gathering and for a final celebration and open house the last weekend of the residency. To further the exchange and connection that are at the core of our work all residents are required to offer a workshop, class or presentation for local communities during their time.
