Eligibility

Eligibility for this residency is guided by the following definition. We define “emerging artists” as those who have not attained name recognition in their profession/field by having a body of critically recognized work (i.e. having at least 3 major productions, showings, exhibits, books) at or with leading institutions/publishers. We seek to provide a brave space for artists from different disciplines to balance personal work time with community interaction and optional sharing of work or performance, as well as time for play and rejuvenation - all in support of each artist’s goals, needs and interests.

Program Description

TLC is sponsoring its first National Emerging Artists Program which enables early-career individual artists to focus on their current work. This program subsidizes 2 one-week residencies for 5 emerging artists and/or 2 person creative teams from the United States. We believe the land Tofte Lake Center sits on and the programs and opportunities we offer belong - and should be accessible to - artists of all genders, ages, abilities and racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. We regard TLC as a home where all artists, arts supporters and audiences can touch the land, honor the ancestors, and through art become cultural stewards for the generations to come. We create community through personal and professional exploration of our ever-changing cultural dimensions: spiritual, political, economic, health and well-being, academic and, of course - art.
