Program Description

The W.O.W. Makers Residency is a 3-month long opportunity for a maker to refurbish 50+ year old shipping crate wood into a functional object for Chinatown residents. The maker’s design will be used to teach woodworking workshops to community members throughout the residency and conclude with a final showcase exhibiting works from both the maker-in-residence and the community, honoring the journey the raw material has made from HK to NYC and celebrating its new functionality. The collection of crate wood is over fifty years old and has helped transport porcelain inventory from Hong Kong to New York since the lates 1970s. After the W.O.W. Project re-envisioning of Wing On Wo's mission and the reorganization of over a century-old clutter, we're ready for these wooden crates to have a new life for our community!
