Program Description

Wide Open Studios’ new three-week field study “Artist-as-Trickster” is a backcountry-based survey of strategies for subversion, fable, and ruse in the heart of coyote country. With Coyote myth cycles as inspiration, we’ll traverse some of the seldom-seen corners of the Sonoran Desert, sharing the season’s transition into autumn amidst cottonwoods turning gold and the migration of tarantulas. A rotating cast of Signal Fire’s finest guides and guests will join our trip, each bringing their unique practice and perspective to bear on the potency of artists to undermine power structures and disrupt accepted narratives with their own version of reality. *costs include food and transportation throughout the experience *partial scholarships are available (click on APPLY NOW to read more)
